Between the Lines (CHAPTER 6-10)

CHAPTER 6: Ang Paanyaya

The next Monday, Francine arrived to see something strange: Seth was waiting by the classroom door.

“Bakit ka nandito?” tanong niya.

“May tanong sana ako,” Seth said, shifting nervously. “Gusto mo bang sumama sa school fair sa Sabado? I mean… with me?”

Francine blinked. She wasn’t expecting that. “Sabay tayo? Like… date?”

Seth raised an eyebrow, playful as ever. “Date agad? Pwede namang… study partner na may rides.”

She laughed. “Fine. Basta walang corny pick-up lines ha.”

“No promises.”

---

CHAPTER 7: Sweet Escape

The fair was loud and chaotic — games, music, cotton candy — but for Seth and Francine, it felt like their own little world.

They played ring toss, tried the horror house (Seth screamed louder than Francine), and shared ice cream.

But the most magical part?

The Ferris wheel.

As they reached the top, Seth glanced at her. “Ang taas natin, no?”

Francine nodded. “Nakakatakot… pero masaya.”

“Parang ikaw.”

“Huh?”

“Kinakatakutan kita dati. Pero ngayon, gusto ko nang masanay sa’yo.”

And just as the Ferris wheel paused at the peak… he held her hand again. This time, she didn’t let go.

---

CHAPTER 8: Tension

Everything seemed perfect—until it wasn’t.

Rumors started spreading in school.

> “Ginagamit lang ni Seth si Francine para pumasa.”

“He’s not serious.”

Francine overheard the whispers. Sa corridor, sa CR, kahit sa group chat.

“Seth,” she confronted him after class. “Are you… just pretending?”

“What?” he looked confused, hurt even.

“People are saying you’re only being nice because of our project. And… I need to know if I’m just a phase.”

Tahimik si Seth. Then finally—

“I thought… you’d know me better than that.”

He walked away.

---

CHAPTER 9: The Apology

Francine couldn’t sleep that night. Her heart was heavy with regret. The next day, she waited by the school gates—hoping.

Then he came. Hoodie up, earphones in.

“Seth!” she called out.

He stopped, but didn’t turn.

“Wait lang, please. Sorry. I shouldn’t have doubted you. I was scared. I like you, okay? And I didn’t know how to handle that.”

Finally, he looked at her.

“Say it again.”

“I like you.”

He smiled, slowly. “Ayan. Diyan pa lang, panalo na ako.”

---

CHAPTER 10: The First Kiss

Final exams came and went. They were officially done tutoring. But Seth still showed up at the library—this time, to sit beside her with no books.

“Wala na tayong reason to meet every day, no?” she said.

“Gagawa tayo,” he replied.

“Like what?”

“Like… ako na lang yung i-review mo araw-araw. Heart ko na lang aralin mo.”

Francine laughed, shaking her head. “Ang corny mo pa rin.”

“Pero kinikilig ka pa rin.”

She tried to argue, but he leaned in, close enough to feel her breath.

“Pwede bang…”

And before she could answer, he kissed her. Soft. Sure. Sweet.

The kind of kiss that wrote its own chapter—Between the Lines.
